Hi!
My name is Jason.
I'm a software engineer.
Hello, I'm Jason McVicar. I'm a software engineer living in Chicago, Illinois. I recently graduated from Rithm School in San Francisco. For me, this was the culmination of three years of planning and hard work that began in the fall of 2019 when I decided to immerse myself in computer science and learn web development.
The journey has been a part of me for a long time. I grew up in rural Michigan and, as a kid, I first wrote code on the family desktop computer, an Apple II. Later at Michigan State University, I majored in computer science for two years before placing it on hold in order to follow a love and drive to create comics. Growing up reading newspaper strips (like Bloom County and Calvin & Hobbes), and wanting to make them, was something I loved and dreamed about. Tending to that passion has been the joy of a lifetime.
But, eventually, I realized I needed more. I wanted to create in a new way.
And that's what brought me here today.
I couldn't be happier.
Building things with others, stretching my brain in new ways, contributing to the flow of our collective technical and creative expertises into this field, while making the products that bring us together and make us better, this is something that excites me. But it's not just the thrill of writing a clever algorithm, or debugging a bit of seductively puzzling code, that I find so engaging - though those things are fun. It's more than that. I want to make things. With you! ❤️
